The Lexmark X5470 is an all-in-one printer, scanner and fax machine that can detect a variety of problems and display an error message on the screen that points you to the specific problem. Commonly displayed error messages include issues with the printer cartridges, the connection to the computer, problems with unreadable memory cards and problems with unsupported files on portable storage devices.

Check the USB cable connecting the computer to the Lexmark X5470 printer for signs of physical damage, such as cuts or fraying, if your computer and printer aren’t making a connection. Make sure the USB cable is securely connected to the computer. Try connecting the USB cable to another USB port on your computer in case the port you’re using is defective or damaged. Also, make sure the USB cable is connected to a high-power USB port and not a low-power USB port. High-power USB ports are located on the towers of desktop computers and the monitors of all-in-one computers. Low-power USB ports are located on keyboards and standalone monitors.

An “Error 1104″ message is a warning that the black ink cartridge and the color ink cartridge are inserted in the wrong slots. Open the printer, check the area where the ink cartridges are located, then make sure that either the black or photo ink cartridge is located in the left cartridge slot and that the color ink cartridge is located in the right cartridge slot.

The Lexmark X5470 may not detect photo files capable of being read by the printer on a memory card or flash drive connected to the printer. Because the printer recognizes only JPEG files, you must make sure that the files on your portable storage device are in the JPEG format.

The Lexmark X5470. Slot 1 does not support all types of memory cards. It supports the xD Picture, Secure Digital, Mini Secure Digital and MultiMedia cards. It also supports the Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO and Memory Stick Duo. Slot 2 supports the Compact Flash Type 1 and 2 cards, and Microdrive cards. Also, look for an arrow on the card and make sure the side with an arrow pointing toward it is inserted first. In addition, check the memory card for any kind of physical damage — if there is any, the card may be completely unusable.
